ESREL 2010 Annual
Conference
The annual ESREL Conference stem from a European initiative merging several
national Conferences into a major yearly conference under the auspices of the
European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA).
The conference will provide a forum for presentation and discussion of
scientific papers covering theory, methods and applications in the fields of
risk, safety and reliability to a wide range of sectors and problem areas.
Abstracts and papers are invited for submission through this conference web
page. Manuscripts will be reviewed by the Technical Programme Committee in
accordance with standard practice and the criteria for the conference. Final
acceptance of the papers is based on review of the full papers. The congress
official language will be English.
The island of Rhodes in Greece has been selected as the venue for the upcoming
ESREL 2010. The return of ESREL to Greece reflects more than two millennia of
attempts to come to grips with the notion of probability and risk. Already
Archimedes occupied himself with the question of how many possibilities there
were to lay out 14 pieces of a puzzle similar to the Chinese TANGRAM puzzle.
This effort marked the first attempt to theoretical foundation of combinatorics
Since then combinatorial analysis found its way into the analysis of
probabilities and risk from which quantified risk analysis developed. On the
ESREL 2010 conference we do not only look at the latest developments, but also
search for the meaning of the ancestral heritage for today’s world wide problem
of managing risk.
Rhodes is a beautiful island located in the Dodecanese complex, in the
Southeast of Greece. It has great history and many natural beauties. It is
easily accessed by direct flights from several European cities. For more
